The course is aimed at illustrating the relevance and need for DigitalSignal Processing (DSP) techniques in present-day multimedia and
communicationssystems, and giving an overview of some major DSP subdomains.

This course provides a brief review of signals and systems theory, andgives an introduction to a number of DSP topics such as filter design andrealization, multi-rate systems, filter banks, optimal and adaptive filters.The theory is illustrated by practical examples, in particular speech and audioapplications,
as well as applications from digital communication.
